I made this painting on an old canvas on which there was already another work painted. It was another female portrait, but with the face in profile. I had done it in 2017. The doves were flying around the figure and for the new work I kept them, integrating and retouching them to adapt them to her style.
 
Now this painting is the confluence of two stories, two unique moments separated by several years. The old portrait remains hidden behind the new painting, and the birds are the link that holds them together. The earlier figure fixed its gaze on the ground, without questioning the viewer. Now, seven years later, the body remains in profile but the gaze is raised to the front. Moreover, the eyes are represented, contrary to what I have done throughout all these past years. It is a metaphor for the awakening and growth that we all go through in time and life.
